Before reading this post please note: it took three and a half years of full-time research to gather the data for my PhD thesis; the three months refers only to the writing, which I did quickly at the end. I do not claim that everybody can write that fast, and if you have not done the research it will be impossible. You might not write as fast as I did, but you might gain some useful insights from the way I approached it. I had nowhere near enough results, the equipment I was using didn't work most of the time, and I could barely summon the motivation to get up in the morning. After a near-breakdown , I started taking walks around the campus when I faced a problem in my research or found myself getting stressed.

This practice-based PhD will support you in the development of a long-form piece of creative writing, or a sequence of related works. You will also identify critical concerns and interests related to your creative practice. The final submission is divided between the creative piece and a related critical document. A novel, for example, should be somewhere between 60, to 80, words.

Earning a doctoral degree can be a years-long process, but choosing an accelerated doctoral online program may help you complete your program more quickly. For a traditional, campus-based PhD program, the average time to finish a PhD is 8 years. Even still, some people are able to finish their programs in just 3 to 6 years. Multiple factors may influence the overall length of your program.
This question, which my two supervisors asked me at the beginning of the month, filled me with dread. And instead of trying to decide for myself, I would rather they had told me where they thought I should begin. Where do you start a research project that will last three or four years and will culminate in a thesis of something like 90, words? Beginning, I must admit, is something I struggle with as I sit down to write this post, I find myself doing just about anything to avoid typing.
