Remember me. When she died in , she was years old. Her service in Germany helped to fight the Soviet Union and prevent another war. She stayed in the Army for many years and proved her commitment to this country and fellow Americans. I wish I could have interviewed LTC McGrath for this essay to learn more about her experience in the Army, but I visited Arlington National Cemetery and left a flag at her grave to show my great respect for her life.

The Competition is an opportunity for all young Commonwealth citizens and residents, regardless of region, education or background, to share ideas, celebrate their story and have their voice heard — all whilst developing key skills. For , they want to hear from all young people, regardless of schooling, education or region. All stories and voices are important.
Two Singaporeans receive The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition awards in Buckingham Palace
More than 11, young people from across the Commonwealth entered the Competition and from that number, came from the Americas and the Caribbean. The two illustrations below show the results from last year as compared to this year. Participation was greater and there has been an increase in the number of gold and bronze awardees, and small decrease in the number of silver awardees. Topics invited young people to consider the potential of the Commonwealth in strengthening the vast and varied links between citizens.
