There were many attempts made to destabilise Anglo-Irish relations. Rebellions were launched in , , , and to try and end British rule over Ireland. In the Anglo-Irish Treaty arose out of the demand of an overwhelming majority of the Irish public, their wishes, to be apart from the North East and create independence of a self-governing republic government of Ireland. In Easter the Irish Home Rule party proclaimed that the Republic of Ireland was to be created and after the majority vote of Sinn Fein in the general election, he proceeded to establish his own parliament and government. The way in which the Anglo-Irish treaty was agreed were down to different terms in which the British had put forward to the Irish Free State government. The terms were that the British agreed to concede dominion status to the south, now to be known as the Irish Free State.

I must admit, I was the same before I began studying his work. I can identify, as many others can, with his longing to escape the pressures of civilisation and with his desire to possess the courage his heroes did. Above all, I can identify with his wish for an ideal world. Quite frankly, Yeats was a bitter, arrogant and cynical man who, despite his riches and comfortable lifestyle, never seemed happy.
This rhyme scheme is successful in such a way that is just enough to give the poem a natural flow but not distract the reader by a continuous rhyme that bounces back and forth from one line to another. Shakespeare also uses frequent alliteration to make the poem progress in a natural way. These alliterations place emphasis on key points in the poem. He starts feeling as though he has not accomplished what he had hoped to by this point in his life, and he is somewhat regretful.
